Vegan Tempeh Bacon
No it is not exactly bacon, but it’s smoky, sticky, high in protein and animal-friendly. Enjoy and still look Esther the Wonder Pig in the eye.
- 1 tablespoon white miso
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil
- 1 teaspoon liquid smoke
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 4 ounces tempeh 1/2 package, sliced thin
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
In a small bowl, combine all ingredients except the tempeh. Stir briefly until it forms a smooth but thickish paste.
Lay thinly sliced tempeh strips on a lightly oiled baking sheet. Using a basting brush, paint the miso-maple paste on the tempeh.
Bake for 15 minutes. Flip tempeh strips over, brush with the remainder of the miso-maple paste and bake for another 15 minutes, or until vegan bacon strips are just starting to blacken at the edges and the whole kitchen smells smoky, sexy and fabulous.
Remove from the oven, add to salads, make vegan BLTS, chop and add to tofu scrambles, enjoy any way you like.
